Puno

Puno is located in south sierra of Peru.

With a height of 3827meters above sea level.

Lake Titicaca: 3800meters above sea level.

Population: 1,130,775 inhabitants.

The area stretches over 71,999 km².

Climate: The best time for a visit is from April to September, the other months are rainy with blazing sunshine and cold nights with lows of 8°C.

Puno has been nominated the Folkloric Capital of Peru for its great artistic culture especially for its dances.

Sited at Lake Titicaca, Puno was the origin of great pre-hispanic civilizations such as the Tiahuanaco, Collas and Aymaras. According to the legend Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, who lived near Lake Titicaca, walked to Cusco by foot to found the Incan Empire.
